Endowed Chairs and Professorships

Endowed Chairs and Professorships are established by the philanthropic community and/or organizations to develop, promote, and recognize research excellence throughout the University. The income generated by the endowments enhances the recruitment and retention of internationally renowned candidates who will provide leadership and vision to specific research programs. In 2009, some 125 endowments resided at the faculty of Medicine. Typically, an endowed Chair has a value equal or superior to $3M while Professorships have a value equal or superior to $1.5M.

 

Endowments have virtually matched pace with the overall growth of the Faculty. Estimated at $40 million eight years ago, the total endowment value now represents over $150 million. Ten years ago we had 25 endowed Research Chairs and Professorships; today we have over 55 Chairs and Professorships.
