Travel & Parking Information for the Faculty of Medicine

 

The Faculty of Medicine is located in the Health Sciences Centre, on the Foothills Medical Centre site, at 29th Street and 16th Avenue NW.  It is approximately 1 km southwest of the main U of C campus (see map below).  The street address is 3330 Hospital Drive NW.

 

 

From the airport . . .

1. Taxi cab -The cost will be about $35 - $40 and it will take about 30 minutes.  Ask the driver to take you to the "Health Sciences Centre at Foothills Hospital".

2. Driving -Take Barlow Trail south to 16th Avenue. Exit west onto 16th Avenue (Transcanada Highway).  Continue westbound to 29th St. NW. Turn left (south) on 29th St. Take the first right on Hospital Drive into the Foothills Medical Centre grounds. Go straight at the 4-way stop sign and park in the Lot 6 parkade on the right.  The Health Sciences Centre is attached to the parkade by an elevated walkway.

3. Calgary transit - Transit fare is $2.75 but it will take approximately 2 hours from the airport as there are no direct transit routes from the airport.

• Take route 57 from the airport to the Whitehorn train station (route 57 map/schedule). At Whitehorn station, transfer to a "City Centre" C-train (city center train map/schedule). At any of the C-train stations on 7th Avenue downtown, transfer to a "Dalhousie Station" train.  You do not need to change platforms. From the Dalhousie train, disembark at University station.  Go down the ramp on the University of Calgary side of the station to the bus stop outside the Biological Sciences building (Dalhousie train map/schedule).
• Take the number 20 bus "Heritage" (20 map/schedule).  This bus runs every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes after 7 p.m.

Driving from . . .

1.  Highway #2 North (e.g. Red Deer, Edmonton) or South (e.g. Lethbridge, Medicine Hat) - Highway 2 becomes Deerfoot Trail in Calgary.  Take Deerfoot Trail to 16th Avenue (Transcanada Highway - #1).  Exit west. Continue westbound on 16th Avenue to 29th St. NW. At 29th St. NW turn left (south).  Take the first right (Hospital Drive) into the Foothills Medical Centre grounds and park in the Lot 6 parkade (below).

2.  Highway #1 (TransCanada Highway) West or East - The Transcanada (#1) highway becomes 16th Avenue in Calgary.  Stay on 16th Avenue to 29th St. NW.  At 29th St. NW turn SOUTH towards the Foothills Medical Centre site.  Take the first right (Hospital Drive) into the Foothills Medical Centre grounds and park in the Lot 6 parkade (below).

Parking at the Faculty of Medicine . . .

To attend an event at the Faculty of Medicine, enter the Foothills Medical Centre grounds from 29th St. NW at Hospital Drive, the first set of lights south of 16th Ave. NW. At the stop sign continue straight and park in the Lot 6 parkade on the right. The parkade is connected to the Health Sciences Centre by an elevated walkway.  The daily cost is $13. Payment can be made by cash or credit card.
