Program Accreditation for CME

Family Physician Programs

  • Criteria has been established by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).  Click here for CFPC criteria.
  • Programs developed and organized with the assistance of the CME&PD office can be directly accredited for CFPC  Mainpro-M1 credits.  Follow the link to Conference Services for more information.
  • For programs not developed and organized through the CME&PD office, application for Mainpro-M1 accreditation must be made

Specialist Programs

  • Criteria has been established by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).  Click here for RCPSC criteria.
  • Programs developed and organized with the assistance of the CME&PD office can be directly accredited for RCPSC, Section 1, Maintenance of Certification credits.  Follow the link to Conference Services for more information.
  • Faculty of Medicine members who are involved in organizing a CME program, which is being developed within a University of Calgary / Alberta Heath Services department or divisional activity, Institute or AMA specialty section may apply to the CME&PD office for Section 1, Maintenance of Certification accreditation.  The program’s application must be approved by the CME Committee representative of that department/division/specialty.   • The CME&PD office will review applications for faculty members involved in the development of programs outside the University/AHS medical (or health) departmental/divisional structure, a Research Institute or one of the AMA specialty sections provided that the organization meets RCPSC criteria as a ‘physician organization’.  Click here  for ‘physician organization’ information.  If the ‘physician organization’ criteria is met: 
    • The following documents must be received at least 6 weeks prior (late fee charges will apply) to the program date. Note:  Any incomplete applications will not be approved.
      • Evidence that the organization developing or co-developing the program is a ‘Physician Organization’ (Click here for criteria that must be met.)
      • Application Form with supporting documents indicated in the application
      • Budget Form

Fees

  • All fees (or University of Calgary account numbers) must accompany an application for the CME&PD office to review.
  • The following fees apply per application if submitted at least 6 weeks before program date:
    • $150.00 for programs with no commercial support
    • $500.00 for programs with commercial support
  • The following late fees apply per application if submitted within 6 weeks before program date:
    • $250.00 for programs with no commercial support
    • $600.00 for programs with commercial support
  • No fees will be refunded for non-approved applications.
