Dr. Michael Hill: Photo by Chris KindratskyDr. Michael Hill: Photo by Chris KindratskyI am pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Hill, MD, MSc, FRCPC, has been appointed to the position of Associate Dean, Clinical Research, as of July 1, 2009.

Dr. Hill joined the University of Calgary in 2001 as an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences with cross-appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Community Health Sciences.  He was promoted to associate professor in 2005, and has been recognized with several awards & distinctions during his medical career, including the ‘Top 40 under 40' Calgary Award, the Michael S. Pessin Award from the American Academy of Neurology and the Frances McNaughton Memorial Award from the Canadian Neurological Society.  Dr. Hill is one of Canada's leading stroke researchers.

Dr. Hill's administrative duties in the Faculty of Medicine include his roles as HBI Stroke Program Lead, co-chair of the Alberta Provincial Stroke Strategy Calgary Region, Department of Clinical Neurosciences' Quality Assurance Initiative and most recently the director of the Calgary Centre for Clinical Research.  He holds membership on several societies such as the Canadian Federation of Neurological Sciences, the Canadian Stroke Network and the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Hill received his MD in 1993 from the University of Ottawa, where he also completed a fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in internal medicine.  He also received an FRCPC in neurology wh the University of Toronto in 1999 and an MSc from the University of Calgary in 2003.

In his new role as Associate Dean, Clinical Research, Dr. Hill will lead our clinical research enterprise and will liaise with key partners such as Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the University of Alberta.  Dr. Hill will represent the Faculty in the development of research at the South Health Campus and other AHS sites, and will also facilitate communication between faculty members and granting agencies.  He will also provide guidance to faculty and staff in the preparation of grant and contract applications.  The position of Associate Dean, Clinical Research has a term of five years.
