Dr. Doug Wilson appointed new Department Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Faculty of Medicine welcomes Dr. Doug Wilson into the positions of Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Regional Clinical Department Head effective Dec. 1, 2008.

Dr. Wilson received both his MSc in Medical Genetics and MD degree from the University of British Columbia, where he also completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After a fellowship at UBC's Medical Genetics department, Dr. Wilson joined the faculty at UBC and became a tenured professor until 2001.

He then moved to Philadelphia as a  professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

His long list of accomplishments include being honoured with an Outstanding Award by an Investigator "for contributions as a leader in the design and implementation of multi-centre clinical trials in the area of prenatal diagnosis," by the BC Research Institute for Children's and Women's Health in 2001.

Dr. Wilson sits on editorial boards of several medical journals including Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy, Clinical Genetics and the Journal Obstetrics & Gynecology of Canada. He has published widely, with more than 175 peer-reviewed articles to his name.
