Take part in this record setting event! Be one of up to 650 students to send a light message to the astronauts on the International Space Station.
Note to students
On September 19, more than 600 students will send a visual message to the astronauts on the International Space Station by holding up 300 high powered LED light panels. The Schulich School of Engineering needs committed students to be part of this formation, as well as approximately 50 additional students to serve as volunteers at the event.
How will it work?
On an acreage in Dewinton (35 minutes away from the university), students will gather into a grid formation on the ground. On cue, light panels will be turned on in certain groups to form an image. The goal is to have this image seen by the astronauts on the International Space Station. An airplane will fly overhead capturing footage of the entire event.
Discovery Channel will be on site capturing footage and a video will be released on YouTube.
One of the astronauts on board the International Space Station is U of C's well known grad, Dr. Robert Thirsk, who last May started the longest space mission to ever be done by a Canadian.
