Dr. Suzette Cooke, director of the Office of Faculty Assessment and Development for the Faculty of Medicine has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Mentor of the Year Award for Region 1 by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

The award was established to acknowledge Fellows who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the welfare of patients and to high standards of excellence in clinical care and ethical conduct. It is given to a Fellow who has actively provided role models for medical students, residents, and other Fellows of RCPSC.

Cooke, who is also the Hospital Pediatrician & Section Director for Human Patient Simulation in the faculty’s Department of Pediatrics, was surprised to learn of her selection. As she herself has been the benefactor of the positive influence, valuable advice and tremendous support from mentors, Cooke feels strongly about the opportunity to give back to others. “It is truly and honour and a privilege” she says.

Cooke will be presented with the Mentor of the Year award at an upcoming meeting of her peers.
