Alvin LibinAlvin Libin will be inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame in OctoberLongtime University of Calgary supporter and advocate Alvin Libin is among three men who will be inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame. Libin, along with fellow prominent Calgarians John Forzani and Theodore Rozsa, will be officially enshrined in the Hall in October.

One of the University of Calgary’s most ardent supporters, Alvin Libin established the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, a world-class centre of excellence for heart health research, education and patient care. Along with his wife Mona, who passed away in June 2006, the Libin’s have supported a wide variety of causes over the years, but took an especially keen interest in medicine. At the U of C, they financially supported medical students by funding scholarships, as well as establishing the institute.

Libin, Forzani and the late Theodore Rozsa, while all well known Calgary businessman, have also raised or personally donated tens of millions of dollars for various causes.  “Each of these three individuals has a truly inspirational story of success in business and in life. The selection committee has once again done an outstanding job of recognizing what the Calgary Business Hall of Fame represents: innovation, dedication, passion and commitment,” said Scott Hillier, president and CEO of the Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta.

The trio will be officially inducted to the Calgary Business Hall of Fame event at the 7th annual Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremony on October 19. Proceeds from the event benefit Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta (JASA).

The inductees’ names will go on permanent display at the Hall of Fame wall on the main floor of Bankers Hall East. The exhibit will undergo a major expansion. In addition to the existing multimedia installation, a new wall of plaques will be constructed by fall 2010.
