Dr. David Hogan awarded 2010 Prix d'ExcellenceDr. David Hogan awarded 2010 Prix d'ExcellenceDr. David Hogan, the Brenda Strafford Foundation Chair in Geriatric Medicine at University of Calgary, has won the 2010 Prix d'Excellence of the Year from the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee for Region 1 (British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon).

The Prix d'Excellence recognizes members of the College with outstanding qualities who have made significant contributions as a medical educator or provided outstanding service to their community and to the Royal College over a long period of time. One or two of these awards are granted in each of the Regions of the College on an annual basis.

Hogan–the founding head of U of C’s Division of Geriatric Medicine–is the first Brenda Strafford Foundation Chair in Geriatric Medicine, which is the first Chair in geriatric medicine established in Canada. He has served as chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Specialty Committee in Geriatric Medicine, chief examiner in Geriatric Medicine for the RCPSC, and president of the Canadian Geriatrics Society. He is a member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute in the Faculty of Medicine and has more than 400 publications.
