Tyronne Donnon, PhDThe Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) New Educator’s Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to medical education in the first phase of their professional career. Tyrone Donnon, PhD, associate professor, Department of Community Health Sciences, has been chosen as the recipient for 2010.
Donnon received his PhD with specialty in adult education in 2002 at the University of Calgary and joined the Faculty of Medicine as assistant professor in 2004. In response to winning the coveted award, Donnon said his initial reaction was exhilaration.
“It’s such an honour in what has become a very competitive discipline. Many of our medical educators are known both nationally and internationally for their contributions to the field of medical education.”
Donnon feels the award recognizes his commitment to enhance the discipline through his teaching, research and service contributions. His goals and focus for the future are to continue to advocate for the establishment of high standards in medical education. In particular, Donnon will be looking to expand his collaborations with other medical schools nationally and internationally. He’s currently in the final stages of releasing an inaugural online issue of the Canadian Medical Education Journal (CMEJ).
Donnon is the first Faculty member from the University of Calgary to receive this distinguished award and will be honoured at the Canadian Conference on Medical Education in May 2010.
