President Obama’s Deputy Director nominee for Drug Control Policy coming to Faculty of Medicine

Thomas McLellan, one of the United States’ leading experts on addiction and substance abuse, will be the keynote speaker at the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine’s Addiction Day & Networking Fair on Friday, April 17, 2009. According to the White House website, President Barack Obama has nominated Dr. McLellan to be appointed Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, which advises the president and coordinates anti-drug efforts. The topic of this year’s course is Integration of New Research & Collabortaion in Addiction & Mental Health.

The vision of this course is to increase the awareness of the expanding and integrating concept of addiction and its interplay with physical and mental health. It will be of interest to a variety of health care professionals (physicians, psychologists, researchers, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, counselors, and educators).
