The Department of Family Medicine held a celebratory lunch and banner signing on Monday to cheer on their Olympic Torchbearers.  Dr. Wendy Tink from UCMC North Hill and Dr. Maeve O'Beirne from UCMC Sunridge will be part of a group of University of Calgary doctors carrying the Olympic Torch in Banff, Alberta on Thursday January 21, 2010.

“I have just a few days to go before the event, and with each day I get more excited,” says Tink. “Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that my husband and two young children who braved the cold early one morning in 1988 to watch the Olympic flame enter Calgary would be cheering me on as an Olympic torchbearer 22 years later.”

A total of 19 doctors from the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) will run with the Olympic torch at 1:30pm MST, starting on Lynx Street in Banff and will continue down Mount Norquay Road towards the yellow Texas gate sign.
